High-tech research institutes are concentrated in Daedeok Innopolis ranging from IT (Information Technology), BT (Biotechnology), NT (Nano Technology), ST (Satellite Technology) to RT (Radiation Technology).
- Status of Daedeok Innopolis (Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone)
-
Daedeok Innopolis was established in 2005, designed as a premier innovative cluster for enhancing the commercialization of development and innovations generated through the cooperation of industry,
academia and research centers. 79 research institutes including 28 government-sponsored research centers, 6 universities and some 900 venture companies are currently occupying the Daedeok Innopolis
with an area of 70.2§´'. ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), based within the Daedeok Innopolis, led the commercialization of CDMA and the development of the DRAM semiconductor.
ETRI has also succeeded in developing WiBro (Wireless Broadband Internet) and DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) Technologies, which are emerging as the next-generation IT businesses. Many research
institutes are developing worldclass technologies including the localization of nuclear fuel by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the development of the satellite ¡°ribyeol¡±by the Korea
Aerospace Research Institute. This concentration of research institutes in a variety of fields gives the advantages of synergistic exchange of related information, the utilization of cutting-edge
facilities and the transfer of technology. It also enhances cooperation in projects being conducted by research centers in different fields.

- Daedeok Techno Valley
-
Daedeok Techno Valley is a cutting-edge industrial complex with high-tech venture businesses leading the way. It was established in 2001 to become thenext-generation growth engine by
constructing a strategic industrial cluster in connection with the Research and Development functions of Daedeok Innopolis (Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone). Daedeok Techno Valley,
covering an area of 4.27§´ will be equipped with schools, business hotels, multi-purpose sports facilities, parks and residential facilities that can accommodate 33,000 people as well as industrial
and commercial areas. With the Daejeon Customs Office moving in and the designation of an integrated bonded area, enterprises within the area will find it fast and convenient to clear customs.
- First and Second Phase Development Areas within Daedeok Innopolis
-
With the designation of the Daedeok Innopolis (Daedeok Research and Development Special Zone), a total of 8 areas covering 5.736§´are being developed in stages. The first-phase development area,
Banghyeon-Shinseong-Jukdong Industrial area covering 1.518§´ consists of land for industrial use, industry-supporting facilities, residential use, foreign businesses, etc.
The intention is to make the Innopolis a place where education, research and production come together, a ¡®reen City¡¯where nature and human beings become harmonized, and a Complex City where work,
play and family life are balaced.
- Foreign Investment Zone(FIZ)
-
In the second phase development areas, Daejeon seeks to attract foreign-invested enterprises and Research and Development centers by constructing foreign investment zones (FIZs) in the fields of IT, BT,
and materials, parts and components. We are also constructing a dedicated residential complex for the comfort and convenience of foreigners.
Requirements to occupy the FIZs include businesses with a foreigner investment ratio of 30% or more or with foreigners being the first shareholder. Once cutting-edge foreigner-invested
businesses or research institutes
occupy the area, mutual cooperation and joint research with existing businesses can be expected, to the great benefit of both.
- Daedeok Global Research and Development Center
-
Established within Daedeok Techno Valley, the Daedeok Foreign Research and Development Center is an integrated facility, housing global businesses and other Research and Development centers.
As many as 74 research centers within Daedeok Innopolis as well as about 1,000 venture firms will be a growth engine through joint research and technology transfer.
The ETRI-juelich Research and Development Center, the VTT Research and Development Center and the Lyotip Research and Development Center are scheduled to move into the Daedeok Foreign
Research and Development Center soon.
